What makes Basic Real Estate Investing unique?

Basic Real Estate Investing starts from the standpoint that this is a business. This applies whether you are trying to build passive income, or need to rent a property temporarily while you try to sell it. You may even have a property that you do not want to sell and want to convert to a rental. Whatever the reason, you have real estate that is no longer your primary residence or a vacation property, and you wish to use it as a source of income. It is for all intents and purposes, a business, and you need to manage it properly if you hope to be successful.

A simple search of the web reveals thousands of sites that talk about investing in real estate. As with any topic, these sites cover a range of categories within the topic of real estate.

Some sites talk about making the perfect deal to acquire real estate. Other sites discuss the different factors that make for profitable real estate investment. Yet others cover what you should do if you are just starting out in real estate.

The majority of sites start with the assumption that people are trying to figure out whether or not they should invest in real estate. If not that, then they have already decided to invest and want to know how. These sites are focused on making the most profitable deal, or how to acquire your first property. They don’t address what to do once you own the property, namely, how do you manage it.

So what makes it "Basic"?

This site is about the basics of managing your real estate business. I will cover topics ranging from management and property managers, to tracking finances, to tenants, and repairs. I will make an effort to cover not just what to do when things are going right, but also how to get things on track so they will go right, and what to do when they go wrong.

Investing in real estate is definitely not a get rich quick scheme, and it certainly isn’t easy. That doesn’t mean it is impossible though. The more you learn, the more you will be able to avoid or minimize the effects of surprises that will inevitably come your way.
